Sacred to the memory of Ann Scott who departed this life May 11th 1847 Aged 55. So starts this well made early Victorian embroidery sampler, in black striped antique oak frame. Glare from original bubbles in glass notwithstanding, it is easy to see the detailed handiwork loving remembering this 19th century woman. Quoting Revelation 6:8. O Death where is thy sting, O grave where is thy victory.
Further it states, Affliction sore long time she bore Physicians were in vain But God alone did hear here groan and freed her from her pain.
Purchased in England, this early memoria is in fine condition. Very moving, a tangible statement of grief, hand made by a close mourner of Ann Scott.
