Memento Mori Georgian Victorian Paperweight
Late Georgian or very early Victorian Ormolu memorial paperweight.
Intensely deep antique mourning memoria.
Heavy black slate based paper weight with two golden finish sea serpents,
as dolphins, incredibly detailed.
Large ornate pallet worked human hair encased in a beveled glass framed brooch,
With seed pearls and gold thread rest atop a fire opal like iridescent backing.
This mourner’s remembrance is deeply embedded into the black stone.
Condition, superb for age, with a chip to the slate base edge and minor nibbles.
Handle is slightly bent and there is a small crack and two chips to the glass panel.
Little detracts from its appeal.
An important paperweight of the highest rarity,
This antique artist triumph was likely made right after a very special loved ones death.

Georgian Mourning Human Hair Memorial
Large Georgian, early Victorian Memorial Hair Sculpture Paperweight.
Contained within a swirling thick milky white marble base,
a rectangular cemetery landscape vignette with tomb in foreground.
Fashioned from Human Hair, this incredible early 19th century Memento Mori,
has a Weeping Willow tree, gravestone mournfully clad with bereavement wreath and country estate mansion in background.
Watercolor hand painted background of blue sky,
it is secured by a burnished gold brass glass frame.

Confederate soldier Tom Pruitt died in 1862, this antique signed paperweight states he was born in 1840.
Lost in war? 1862 was a bloody year. This very heavy old military memorial glass paperweight was likely made post mortem in the 1880's by a loved one.
