19th century wood framed memorial photograph.
Sacred To The Memory Walter Royale.
Died October 9th 1875, aged 10 years, 9 months, 9 days.
What tragic circumstances befell young Walt?
The Jersey boy was much loved.
In life he is posed in studio with an extremely ornate embroidered jacket and seems to stare back from the grave, ageless.
A precious one from us has gone
A voice we loved is stilled
A place is vacant in our home
Which never can be filled.
God in his wisdom has recalled
The boon his love had given
And though the body moulders here
The soul is safe in Heaven.
Great wood frame, with fine gold trim.

Mourning Memento Mori Hair Art HUGE !
Ornate framed memorial Post Mortem photo with human hair, shadow box.
Remembrance cabinet card photograph circa 1885,
by photographer Leon Huisman of Liege Belgium.
Image is cradled by eight mirrors lining this deep shadowbox.
Deceased's hair sculpted into flowers and woven Fleur De Lis.
A large braid of this brunettes lock encircles postmortem image.
It is secured with a large faux pearl hatpin.
Wavy glass set wooden frame is richly carved and extremely detailed,
with gold molding and fine silk lining opulence.
Leather gloves, fur hat and fox wrap she was well loved in life
and certainly most admired in death,

Remembrance Mrs Anna Paulus Walnut Framed Memento 1922
Fine glass and walnut wood frame enclosng a tribute photo and sad death obituary poem.
Just a thought of sweet remembrance
Just a memory fond and true
Just a token of affection,
And a heartache still for you.
Just a sigh for the olden moments,
Just a smile of love anew,
Just a tear in silence falling,
And a yearning just for you.
Mrs. Paulus was 73 when she last sighed. This piece was made by H. F Wendell of Leipsic Ohio in 1917. An interesting bonus was found secreted on the back of this framed treat, three US stamps in very nice condition and included with the sale of this extraordinary and decorative bit of funeral fancy.
This style boiler plate sympathy memento is listed in the Schiffer collectors book, Postmortem Collectibles by C. L. Miller page 48 Neill collection.

Huge Victorian Gone But Not Forgotten Family Heirloom
Giant 19th century walnut and glass framed remembrance of John R. Powell, Mary E. Powell, Sopha A. Powell and Susie J. Powell. Stunning bird white dove of peace with banner in beak. There is a reference to an E T who phoned home in 1892 as well. Each obituary lists birth, death dates and years lived. Flower covered symbolic hourglass atop memorial poem. Fine mouning memento of a family. Unconsolable deep loss.
Measures twenty nine inches tall by sixteen and a half wide.

Crazy Quilt Folk Art Mourning Wreath Hair
Primitive memento mori Victorian death remembrance wreath.
This is a very unique and old wreath that was made to mourn the loss of a young women. Not well to do but certainly well loved and tangibly remembered. The wreath is adorned with her personal mementos. From the deceased, the initial letter A and a braid of long jet black human hair. A silk flower covered comb, two large wood tipped hat pins, a pretty cameo broach pin, a sweater clasp. An Oxzyn Company natural rouge box, a round hand mirror and an old decorative brass button. This memorial wreath is an overstatement in embellishment. A beautiful hand made lace doily, colorful chromolithograph. Note the wide stitch crazy quilt velvet patch pieces surrounding a well stuffed ring pillow like wreath. Touching, warm and loving memoria.

The Sisters Grave 19th Century Framed Print
Mourning antique The Sister's Grave.
Sad and sullen, this mid Victorian mourner sits alone in a graveyard.
Quite the Gothic Poe memento mori type image one would expect from this time period.
Wooden framed, it was a bit hard to photo through the glass.
Caption reads English French and German. High art, very dark and deep.

Lost At Sea Victorian Framed Mourning 1890
Ornate gesso, gilt and glass framed memento mori remembrance for William L. Oxenford who died April 1890. Age nine month, a sad 19th century commentary on the day’s longevity. Nautical motif with anchors and winged dove of peace with out day date hint at a drowning or watery grave. Possibly a shipwreck, common at the time.
When I opened the back of this incredible frame I found secreted away, a second death notice in black. Samuel Hartman died December 23 1897 aged 60 years. A mystery for sure, as the mourned loved ones name plate notice was designed to slide into a slot for same.
A memorial poem inscribed reads;
Thy gentle voice now is hushed.
Thy warm true hart is still.
And on thy you and innocent brow,
Is resting death's cold chill
Thy hands are clasped upon thy breast,
We have kissed thy lovely brow.
And in our aching hearts we know,
We have no darling now.

William McKinley Antique Framed Memorial 1901
President William McKinley antique memorial memento mori ornate wood, gesso and glass framed tribute. Assassinated 25th President of the United States. One of three martyred elected officials, along with Lincoln and Garfield to become a trinity often portrayed on EAPG glass. Produced by the famous Home Art Picture Company a most popular late Victorian art house.This huge mourning remembrance measures thirty by twenty six inches and is quite powerful in appearance. Rare political Presidential memorabilia. Wonderful late Victorian frame, with bold graphics. Great gift for the politician in your life.
Succeeded by Theodore Roosevelt, this along with the death of Queen Victoria, marked the end of an age. McKinley was shot by Leon F. Czolgosz, a Republican turned Anarchist, on September 6, 1901, while attending the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York. He died of blood poisoning from his infected wounds, at 2:15 a.m. on Saturday September 14, 1901. Noticed on the Wikipedia web site he had a parrot named Washington Post.
