Bonaventure Cemetery Midnight Garden Of Good / Evil
Antique Victorian stereo image photo. Old South mourning in Bonaventure graveyard Savannah Georgia. This vintage view is in superb condition and has quite the Gothic look. Spanish moss draped amongst the live oaks, weep sadly down from these mighty trees, in this grave enterance photograph. First made famous in 1867, by author John Muir, in his book , A thousand mile walk to the gulf, this final resting place evokes such strong feelings.
Two 19th century women, both clad in widow's weeds, peer pensively into the shot in this hopelessly depressing scene. One lady sports a black umbrella. Looking much like a cover to an Edgar Allen Poe novel, this visually appealing picture draws the viewer down the center of the path way.
A favorite of photographers, this grave yard founded circa 1850,was made famous in the novel, Midnight in the garden of good and evil. Made further famous by Director actor Clint Eastwood in the 1994 film of the same name, staring Kevin Spacey and John Cusack. Filmed on location in this picturesesque southern cemetery.
While noted for it's monuments and elaborate plantainion owner's gravestones, Bonaventure cemetery is most thought of as the resting place of many of the Civil war most active troops. Six Confederate generals, as well as a myriad of rebal soldiers and sailors are buried here. Among the officer Generals; Robert J Anderson, Alexander R Lawton, Hugh W. Mercer, Claudius C Wilson and Commodore Josiah Tattnal.
